"Do you have any questions for us?" is not a formality; it's part of the evaluation. Thoughtful questions signal genuine interest and help you decide if the job is right for you.

About the role: What does success look like in the first 90 days? What are the biggest challenges facing the person in this role right now?

About the team: How is the team structured, and who would I work with most closely? How would you describe the team's culture?

About growth: What do career paths look like for someone in this position? How do you support learning and development?

About the manager: How do you like to give feedback, and how do you measure performance?

About the company: What are the team's top priorities this year? What's changed most about working here in the last year?

A smart closing question: Is there anything about my background that gives you hesitation? This gives you a chance to address concerns before you leave the room.

Avoid leading with pay and time off in a first interview; save those for later stages. And never say "no, I think you covered everything." Always have two or three questions ready.
