Job description
Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant <p><strong>Location: </strong> Detroit, MI (4 days/week) & Romulus, MI (1 day/week)<br><strong>Schedule: </strong> 1st Shift Approximately 7:00 AM 3:30 PM (30-minute lunch)<br><em>Some days may require an earlier start time of 6:30 AM </em> </p> Position Overview <p>We are seeking an experienced and proactive <strong>Occupational Health Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) </strong> to manage and support on-site medical operations within a manufacturing environment. This role blends clinical occupational medicine with leadership responsibilities, safety collaboration, and employee wellness initiatives. The ideal candidate is comfortable partnering with business leaders while delivering high-quality, compliant, and employee-centered care. </p> Key Responsibilities Medical Leadership & Operations <ul><li><p>Manage medical department objectives, personnel, and daily operations </p> </li><li><p>Implement and maintain medical department policies and procedures </p> </li><li><p>Provide coverage planning for physician and clinical staff vacations, absences, disability leave, and CME/training </p> </li><li><p>Maintain all required licensure, certifications, and training (including PA and DEA, if applicable) </p> </li><li><p>Conduct medical department audits and support continuous quality improvement </p> </li><li><p>Support corporate medical initiatives, training programs, and special projects </p> </li><li><p>Participate in policy and procedure review, development, and implementation </p> </li><li><p>Oversee staff and budgets at the plant level, as applicable </p> </li> </ul> Clinical Occupational Health Practice <ul><li><p>Provide occupational medicine services including diagnosis and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses, as approved by the Medical Director </p> </li><li><p>Perform medical surveillance and medical qualification examinations </p> </li><li><p>Conduct fitness-for-duty, return-to-work, and employee placement evaluations </p> </li><li><p>Manage disability and Workers Compensation cases in collaboration with internal stakeholders </p> </li><li><p>Perform and document concise, accurate patient assessments and treatments in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) </p> </li><li><p>Provide care for and manage First Responders </p> </li> </ul> Safety, Prevention & Emergency Response <ul><li><p>Participate in Safety Observation Tours, job checks, and job walkthroughs </p> </li><li><p>Lead or participate in preventative occupational health programs, including: </p><ul><li><p>Ergonomics </p> </li><li><p>Bloodborne pathogen exposure management </p> </li><li><p>Travel medicine </p> </li> </ul> </li><li><p>Lead or participate in plant-level medical emergency response teams, including training coordination and response oversight </p> </li><li><p>Ensure compliance with all federal and state occupational health regulations, including MIOSHA and HIPAA </p> </li> </ul> Employee Health, Education & Partnership <ul><li><p>Promote employee health and wellbeing through education, coaching, and engagement </p> </li><li><p>Provide EAP services support and guidance as directed </p> </li><li><p>Partner with manufacturing leadership, HR, union representatives, safety, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics teams </p> </li><li><p>Attend and contribute to plant meetings, including but not limited to: </p><ul><li><p>Safety Review Board Meetings </p> </li><li><p>Disability Improvement Process Meetings </p> </li><li><p>Hazardous Materials Control Committee Meetings </p> </li><li><p>Hearing Conservation Meetings </p> </li><li><p>Labor BPD Review Meetings </p> </li><li><p>Plant Manager Monthly Review Meetings </p> </li><li><p>ADAPT (Accommodating Disabled People in Transition) Meetings </p> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> Required Qualifications <ul><li><p>Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) <strong>or </strong> Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) </p> </li><li><p>Board certification required </p> </li><li><p>Active and valid medical license in the applicable State(s) of practice </p> </li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications <ul><li><p>Experience in Occupational Health </p> </li><li><p>Background in Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine </p> </li><li><p>Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments </p> </li> </ul>
