Job description
<p>An OB/GYN Laborist is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who provides inpatient care for women during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. Unlike traditional OB/GYNs, laborists work exclusively in hospital settings, offering 24/7 coverage to ensure timely and safe obstetric care.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Provide direct inpatient obstetric care, including labor management, deliveries (vaginal and cesarean), and postpartum care.</li><li>Perform obstetric triage evaluations and respond to obstetric emergencies.</li><li>Collaborate with nursing staff, midwives, and other physicians to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.</li><li>Cover for community OB/GYNs who are unavailable during their patients' labor.</li><li>Manage unassigned patients or those without a designated obstetrician.</li><li>Participate in quality improvement initiatives and help develop labor and delivery protocols.</li><li>Educate residents, medical students, and nursing staff as needed.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.</li><li>Completion of a 4-year OB/GYN residency program.</li><li>Board certification or eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology.</li><li>Valid state medical license and DEA registration.</li><li>Advanced training in high-risk obstetrics or maternal-fetal medicine is a plus.</li></ul><p><strong>Skills and Competencies:</strong></p><ul><li>Strong clinical skills in labor and delivery, including emergency response.</li><li>Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.</li><li>Ability to work independently and make critical decisions under pressure.</li><li>Commitment to patient safety and evidence-based care.</li></ul><p><strong>Work Schedule:</strong></p><ul><li>Typically shift-based (e.g., 12- or 24-hour shifts), including nights, weekends, and holidays.</li><li>Full-time and part-time positions may be available</li></ul>
